The magic switch is a hand wave that sends a signal to the door drive that allows an automatic door to open. The magic switch requires a close enough wave in order to trigger. usually, they are set to about 6 inches away. They aren’t set farther in order for the magic switch to ignore walking traffic. Magic switches always send signals to the PLC’s it is up to the PLC to send it back to the Dorma drive if conditions are met for example interlock conditions or sensors are not triggered.

If a magic switch stopped working, many conditions might be the reason. An E-stop can be pressed, an error code on the drive, an interlocked door is open, a sensor is active, investigate if the door is in ready state and nothing is interrupting the door from opening.
If a magic switch does go bad, replacement parts can be ordered, and the manual above can help with the process of replacing a new magic switch. Keep in mind that to replace this device recaulking would have to be done. A Daldrop technician can also assist, see option “Request service call” for more information.
